TD-SCDMA Forum secretary-general Chen Haofei has resigned from the post after four months, citing personal reasons.
Former secretary-general Wang Jing, currently an adviser to the industry body, will resume the post, Sina .com reported. Wang is a senior executive at Nortel and a member of the forum board.
“The matter is basically settled. The main reason is from my own deliberation,” Chen said, saying he had made his decision known in early July.
The forum, whose members include the MII, mobile operators and vendors, is unlikely to make a public statement until after it has held a board meeting and confirmed the new holder of the position. Sina speculated that Chen’s resignation just as TD-SCDMA was about to go into commercial operation was because his open style and willingness to debate issues in public conflicted with the forum’s conservative, low-profile approach. “Chen Haofei engaged in a huge amount of discussion, and it was unavoidable that some comments would be inappropriate or inopportune, and eventually caused offence and difference of opinion,” Sina said.
